Wenger to unleash Walcott in striking role: I did it with Henry & Van Persie, I think I will do it with him

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he plans to play Theo Walcott in a striking role.

The England international's future at the club has been the subject of intense speculation recently with talks of a new contract being delayed.

Walcott has also recently stated that "there would be worse things" than leaving the club he joined in 2006 from Southampton.

The winger, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has also suggested that his future at the club depends on which position he plays in.

However, Wenger has now stated he would be happy for Walcott to move from a wide role to a more attacking position, a decision he had made before with other players.

Asked whether he will consider Walcott as a striker, Wenger told reporters: "I did it with Henry and Van Persie and I think I will do it with Walcott."

Walcott has started the season brightly, with three goals in all competitions so far for the Gunners.
