The Top MMA Instructor Teams in Asia

Behind every champion and great fighter, there is a team without which he or she would never have acquired the physical and mental skills to succeed in the ultra competitive world of MMA.

These teams consist of the people behind the scenes who put together the game plans, craft the fight strategies, conduct the fight camps, hold the pads, drill technique, pass on the fight knowledge, and construct the strength and conditioning programs to ensure that a fighter steps into the cage in the best shape of his or her life.

People often talk about which the best fight team is in Asia, but a fight team is only as good as the trainers behind it so here is a list of the top instructor teams in Asia:

#1 - Evolve MMA
Evolve MMA has arguably the most decorated team of trainers anywhere in the martial arts world.  From Lumpinee Muay Thai world champions to WBA boxing champions to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Mundials winners to NCAA Division I wrestlers and US Olympic wrestlers, Evolve MMA has dozens of world champions for each and every discipline of MMA.

Elite instructors, world champions, and legends cover every aspect of the sport of mixed martial arts at Evolve MMA.  The Muay Thai trainers are all legends in Thailand including Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, Orono Wor Petchpun, Chalee Sor Chaitamin, Attachai Fairtex, Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, and many others.  The BJJ black belt world champion trainers at Evolve MMA include names such as Leandro Issa, Bruno Pucci, Alex Silva, Leandro Ataides, Herbert Burns, Almiro Barros, etc.  Former WBA Super Featherweight World champion Yodsanan Sityodtong heads up the boxing program with the likes of WBA Asia Champion Saenghirun Lookbanyai.  Known as the ‘Little Mike Tyson’, Yodsanan Sityodtong retired with an incredible 58-3-1 record which included 47 knock outs.  US wrestling Olympian and MMA pioneer, Heath Sims, is in charge of wrestling and MMA.

No other camp in the world, let alone Asia, has such a qualified and experienced team of instructors.  MMA fighters like ONE FC Champion Shinya Aoki, UFC contender Rafael Dos Anjos, RUFF Champion Irshaad Sayed, ONE FC star Eddie Ng, ONE FC star Leandro Issa, and many others are privileged to learn and train under trainers who have all proven themselves to be among the very best in their respective disciplines.  Many elite fighters from the US, including Ben Askren, Joseph Benavidez, Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson, and Tarec Saffiedine, regularly travel to Singapore to train under the world champion instructors at Evolve MMA.

#2 - Tiger Muay Thai
Tiger Muay Thai is a popular martial arts tourist destination and hundreds of visitors arrive every month to spend some time in tropical Phuket. The MMA program is very well respected and is jointly headed up by current UFC welterweight Brian Ebersole and Bellator, UFC and ONE FC veteran Roger Huerta. BJJ black belt Fernando Maccachero is in charge of the grappling while unsurprisingly, given its location, TMT has some top Muay Thai trainers including Rajadamnern light middleweight champion Lamsongkran Chuwattana and former WBA minimumweight champion Songkram Porpaoin.

The fight team includes Thai prospects Ngoo Ditty and Shannon Wiratchai while Huerta and Ebersole are both active and UFC Champion Georges St Pierre is among the foreign fighters to have visited.

#3 - Krazy Bee
Krazy Bee was founded by Japanese MMA pioneer Kid Yamamoto, a UFC veteran who is famous for winning the K-1 Heroes lightweight Grand Prix in 2005. Cristiano Carioca, a BJJ black belt and Brazilian champion, has helped found a strong wrestling and grappling program at the Tokyo based camp.

The fight team is among the best in Japan with Kyoto Horiguchi recently picked up by the UFC while Kotetsu Boku became the inaugural ONE FC lightweight champion last year and Yasuke Yachi remains one of the top featherweights fighting in Japan.

#4 - X’ian Sports University
Zhao Xue Jun is one of the best regarded Sanda coaches in China and an MMA pioneer who has been sending his students to compete in events since Art of War. With some of the best Sanda fighters in the country Xian’s fighters all have massive striking experience.

Vaughn Anderson is in charge of teaching the other aspects of the MMA game and the Canadian Bellator veteran works every day with fighters like Ruff featherweight champion Wang Guan and recent UFC signing Tuexan Jumabieke to help them become more well rounded.

#5 - Phuket Top Team
Phuket Top Team has rapidly established a reputation as one of the top fight camps in Asia with a team that competes in promotions including ONE FC and Bellator. The BJJ program is headed up by black belt Olavu Abreu and Andrew Leone and Anthony Leone have both enjoyed success on the local grappling scene.  The Leone brothers are active mixed martial artists with Andrew competing for ONE FC and Anthony Bellator while JJ Ambrose is also on the Bellator roster and Adam Kayoom is ONE FC’s number one welterweight.
The most notable Muay Thai trainer is Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn who is a former WMC 160 lbs champion who has starred on the recent Thailand vs Challenger series.

Mark Sangiao might bear the burden of coaching Team Lakay in Baguio almost singlehandedly but his methods speak for themselves with the camp home to 90% of the top Filipino fighter including countless URCC champions and ONE FC and PXC title contenders.

Korean Top Team might have lost its most famous team member with Jung Chang Sung starting his own camp but Dongjin Ha’s team in Seoul is still home to top Korean fighters including Kyung Ho Kang and Hyun Gyu Lim.
