Oliver Torres' talent is beyond doubt, says Atletico Madrid midfielder Suarez

Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez believes that Oliver Torres can make a big impact in La Liga this season, claiming that the teenager's talent is "beyond doubt".

Torres played a starring role in Spain's success at the Under-19 European Championship earlier this summer, and the attacking midfielder has recently been linked with Premier League powerhouses Chelsea and Manchester United.

Suarez is a firm believer that the youngster is destined for great things, but he feels that he must be given time and space in which to develop.

"He is very confident and his quality is beyond doubt," the 25-year-old told reporters after Wednesday's 2-1 friendly win over Atletico Nacional. "We must help him grow gradually.

"The homegrown kids know how important it is to play at Atletico and we, as veterans, have a reponsibility to help those who have just arrived in the first team."

From a personal perspective, an injury-free Suarez is just looking forward to the new season, and is not in the least bit perturbed by the prospect of greater competition for places at the Vicente Calderon.

"Last year I could not do a pre-season because of my pelvic operation, but this time around I have worked myself to a standstill from day one and I'm noticing a very positive improvement. I have no pain and I can train really hard," he declared.

"And I've always said that a lot of competition for one place is good for the team and for everyone concerned because it makes you work with more intensity.

"So, competition does not bother me at all because it makes you better."

Suarez, who is a former Spain Under-21 international, is a product of Atletico's youth academy himself but only rejoined Los Rojiblancos in 2010 after a two-year stint at Mallorca.
