Nigeria-Mozambique Preview: Super Eagles on redemption mission

After a poor start against Mali in their first game of the African Nations Championship, Nigeria will seek a face-lifting win against fellow debutants, Mozambique today.

This game billed for the Cape Town Stadium has been tipped to be a tough duel as both teams have it in mind that a win in this encounter will give them a glimmer of hope for a quarter final ticket, while the loser bids the competition goodbye.

The Mambas endured struggles of their own, as they went down 2-1 to South Africa, in what was very much a one-sided affair against the hosts, though Joao Chissano may give the same XI a second chance to impress on Wednesday.

Though Nigeria are favourites again to emerge victorious at the end of 90 minutes, they need to be wary of threats from the Mambas midfielders who look comfortable on the ball and dangerman Diogo Alberto who has what it takes to trouble the Super Eagles defence.

Mozambique’s best result against Nigeria is a goalless draw in Maputo on March 29, 2009 in a World Cup qualifying game while the Eagles have emerged victorious in two other outings.
