UAAP players do "Call Me Maybe"

Since everyone, from a Harvard baseball team to some local volleyball players to even U.S. president Barack Obama, is coming up with their own version of Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit ‘Call Me Maybe”, it was perhaps inevitable that country’s most popular collegiate league would come up with its own version as well.

As a teaser for the upcoming 75th season of the Universities Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), broadcaster ABS-CBN Sports has put together a video of players from the league’s eight teams dancing and singing to the tune of the popular hit song.

Among the prominent players in the video are Blue Eagles Kiefer Ravena, Nico Salva and Ryan Buenafe, Adamson’s Alex Nuyles and Rodney Brondial, La Salle’s Joshua Webb, Luigi Dela Paz and Jeron Teng, FEU’s RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo, NU’s Bobby Ray Parks and Emmanuel Mbe, practically the entire UE Warriors team, UST’s Kevin Ferrer, Jeric Teng and Jeric Fortuna, and UP’s Mike Silungan, Mike Gamboa and Jett Manuel.

The theme of the video was light and fun, and the players took full advantage of this rare chance to show off their wacky side, although it’s clear we can rule out a career in dancing for most of them. Initial reaction to the video has been mixed, with some fans pleased with it and others saying they didn't like it at all.

Whatever your view, it’s one of the last times you’ll get to see the players from different teams joking with each other, for it’ll be all business in a couple of weeks when basketball hostilities commence on July 14.
