Euro 2012

Nasri in contention for France return, Deschamps confirms

France coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri will be considered for selection for the national team after completing his three-match international ban.

Nasri missed the games against Uruguay, Finland and Belarus – the latter two of which were World Cup 2014 qualifiers – after being punished for two incidents of abusing members of the press following Les Bleus' elimination from Euro 2012.

After playing a friendly against Japan, France resume their qualification campaign against Spain and Nasri will be considered for a place in the squad.

"He is," Deschamps told reporters when asked if Nasri is selectable. "He will be part of the shortlist, which is very big.

"I have not condemned any players in my mind. I do not know exactly what happened at the Euros but I know a lot about it. This is important. But it also belongs in the past."

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has also been in disciplinary trouble in the past, after leading a player protest at World Cup 2010 in South Africa after Nicolas Anelka was excluded from the squad.

Evra was later suspended for five international matches amid calls for a permanent ban and some commentators feel he has not played at the same level for his country since.

"He has to live with what happened in 2010," Deschamps said. "He cannot do anything about it. That's part of it.

"We focus a little more on him. It is true that during the Finland game, we didn't complete a single cross. Against Belarus, it was much better. But we will judge the man on what happened in 2010, even if he plays good games.

"But we speak of a player who has played 45 games each season with Manchester United and is the captain of this team."

Deschamps reiterated his stance on Hugo Lloris' situation at Tottenham, insisting that he was unconcerned by the status of Brad Friedel as the current first-choice goalkeeper at White Hart Lane.

"We don't need to hold a trial before it happens," he remarked. "Lloris should play on Thursday in the Europa League.

"We will not create a problem where there is none. I do not have to be worried about him, I know his qualities. There are games every three to four days. He will play anyway."
