WHAT THIS GAME MEANS
A Manila Clasico win.
These two teams don’t like each other. They might have the utmost respect for one another, but they want to beat the living crap out of the opposing team just as much. That is what makes a great rivalry. The undying balance of respect and need to see the other team lose. We start the season off with that. Can’t get any better than that.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
The Present vs The Future
Arguably the best point guard in the PBA right now going up against arguably the best point guard in five years (maybe even sooner). And yet, you can look at this match-up as a The Present vs The Past in terms being Coach Tim Cone’s floor generals.
Ever since LA Tenorio landed in Barangay Ginebra, he has slowly taken the team on his shoulders. You can ask him, or anyone for that matter, whose team this is. Everyone will still say it is Mark Caguioa’s. There is no doubt there. But, LA has just been on a different level since joining the Barangay. He is at that MVP level.
On the other hand, Mark Barroca has been making waves and it doesn’t look like he is going to stop anytime soon. Looking more and more like Johnny A, the Flying B is on tap for a breakout season. What would be a better way to start it off than against Ginebra?
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR
It’s just been way too long since we’ve seen Mark Caguioa play basketball, right?
