Keane dismisses rib injury fears

Robbie Keane has sought to reassure Ireland fans by saying that the minor rib injury he picked up against Bosnia and Herzegovina is nothing to worry about.

Ireland's record goalscorer had to be treated on the pitch after he was caught in the ribs by Bosnia's Boris Pandza. He was withdrawn after the hour mark but he was keen to distance himself from suggestions that he would be another member of the squad to be added to the treatment table.

"The hamstring is fine but the ribs are in bits after that knee. It's fine. I just found it hard to breathe. It took a few minutes to catch my breath again. It's a little bit sore but it's nothing too serious," said Keane.

The forward was full of praise for his team-mates like new boy James McClean, returning Richard Dunne and man of the match Aiden McGeady who created the winner for Shane Long.

"He [McClean] played very well. We all know what he is capable of doing," said the Tallaght native.

He added: "All the players did well. I thought Aiden McGeady did well when he came on. I thought he was superb. It was a typical performance from Richard. He was solid and not losing many headers playing against two good centre-forwards."

Ireland depart for their training camp in Tuscany today where they will play their final warm up game against Hungary on June 4 before their Euro 2012 opener with Croatia six days later. Keane said that his international colleagues need to remain calm in the lead up their first European Championship game for 24 years.

"I think it is important that the players stay relaxed up until our first game against Croatia," he said.

"You can get too tensed up. I think as a player the more relaxed you go into a game the better you play. That's always been the case for me. The mood has been very relaxed, but in saying that, the intensity in training in football terms has been terrific."
