Jones & Muscat frustrated after Jets-Victory draw

Both coaches were left frustrated after Monday night's 0-0 draw between Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

Jets boss Mark Jones felt his side did enough to take all three points, while his Victory counterpart Kevin Muscat bemoaned a disappointing first half and a missed opportunity to claim consecutive wins.

In a rescheduled clash due to catastrophic heat conditions in the Hunter over the weekend, Newcastle dominated the first half at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Victory created some opportunities of their own after the break but neither side could land a knockout blow.

The Jets moved back into the top six but are six points behind fifth-placed Perth Glory with a pack of teams nipping at Newcastle's heels ahead of Round 20.

"I'm very frustrated that we didn't win the game. In the general balance of play, I thought we had more shots and more crosses," Jones told Fox Sports.

"We had enough possession and did enough to win the game."

After Victory triumphed 2-1 over Melbourne City on February 4, Muscat was disappointed with the performance they produced against Newcastle.

"We improved dramatically in the second half," he told Fox Sports after declaring his side has a lot of "comfortable possession" in the opening period.

"In the second half we were much better in possession of the ball and it's no coincidence that you start creating some chances.

"It's a missed opportunity for us in terms of taking two extra points.

"But after we review this game I dare say there'll be some room for improvement."

Newcastle face a quick turnaround before their next match as they visit Adelaide United on Friday night before taking on Central Coast Mariners in the F3 Derby on February 26.

Adelaide and Central Coast are the bottom two sides in the A-League table.

"It's a good time for us," Jones said.

"We've got to seize the moment and we've a great opportunity to make the six if we play well."

Victory's next match is away to the Mariners on Sunday.
