Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is used to Champions League football, but with Louis van Gaal’s side outside of Europe this season, the England star enjoyed some time off with his sons.

Rooney posted a picture on his Instagram page with one of his sons at the cinema yesterday.

"Good to have my little mates back from holiday. Trip to the cinema to see Peppa Pig!" he captioned, referring to the newly-released children’s animated film.

Both his sons, Kai and Klay, were recently on a holiday with their mum, Coleen, to Barbados.

The 29-year-old was relaxing away from Manchester United’s Premier League campaign before they face Sunderland on Saturday.

Van Gaal’s side are currently fourth in the Premier League, despite inconsistent form, after a damaging 2-1 defeat at Swansea last weekend.

Rooney has been deployed in central midfield regularly by van Gaal in recent months but has returned to the United attack.

The England captain will hope to add to his nine goal tally this season.

  • Tottenham starlet Harry Kane celebrates Valentine's Day in Marbella

Tottenham starlet Harry Kane has been stealing the headlines for his goals in the Premier league, but he proved he was just a normal bloke when he took his childhood sweetheart out for Valentine’s Day.

Kane, 21, who has scored 23 goals so far this season, surprised Katie Goodland with a trip to the Spanish island of Marbella.

He was allowed time off as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were not involved in the FA Cup last weekend.

The pair dined at Marbella’s La Sala restaurant, which is also part-owned by former Spurs team-mate and good friend David Bentley.

The couple stayed at the 5-star Puente Romano hotel for two nights over the weekend, where Kane enjoyed some time away from the gruelling Premier League campaign.

"He is an amazing guy and an all-round professional. He doesn’t drink, but he knows how to have a good time," Bentley, a former Tottenham, Blackburn and Arsenal player said.

"I sorted him and his girlfriend out with a place to stay for two nights and played golf with him

With Chinese New Year round the corner, Man United striker Wayne Rooney is keen to get into the festive spirit.

The 29-year-old was spotted at popular Manchester restaurant, Wing’s, shooting a promotional campaign for the holiday.

The striker posed with a dragon mascot in the dining area of the restaurant and posted up the candid photo on his Facebook account.

The Chinese restaurant is a frequent haunt among celebrities and footballers in the city, and was the venue where Falcao officially signed on to join the club on a one-year deal last summer.

Rooney also held his birthday celebrations there last October, dining out with his family and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The owner of Wing’s himself is known to be a huge Man United fan.

“Had a good day filming yesterday at my friend Wing’s restaurant and learning about Chinese New Year,” wrote the striker.

  • Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge made a surprise visit to a school this week to encourage children to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

The striker showed up at the St. Paul’s Catholic Junior School as part of the Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2015 Launch.

The England international posed for pictures with the excited children while sporting a chef’s hat and apron, and was all smiles as he fulfilled his “Active Kids” ambassadorial duties.

Part of his visit included whipping up a healthy meal for the school children as an example of what constituted an acceptable diet.

The British school system has come under fire in recent years for opting out of serving healthy lunches, further adding to the nation’s problem of childhood obesity.

Sturridge marked his return to football after playing 22 minutes against West Ham at Anfield on Saturday after recovering from a serious thigh problem.

Before his return last weekend, his layoff period saw him out of action for 152 days and the squad was struggling for

  • Arsenal stars pose in 1950's gear

Arsenal’s stars stepped back in time for a nostalgic photo shoot recently, donning the red-and-white kit worn by Gunners players back in 1955.

Theo Walcott, Laurent Koscielny, Mathieu Flamini and David Ospina all took part to celebrate 60 years since the release of Citroen’s DS car.

The four players posed with a 1961 DS in their retro strips and the recently released DS 5 in their current kits to commemorate the longevity of the car’s popular model.

Manager Arsene Wenger also got himself into a picture when he appeared to accidentally “photo bomb” his players as he walked around the club’s London Colney training ground.

The original DS was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1955, but Arsena’s current crop will be hoping for a more successful season than the Gunners squad of 60 years ago.

The north London side finished ninth in Division One in 1954-55, coming below the likes of Portsmouth, Wolves and Aston Villa.

Liverpool may have beaten Aston Villa last weekend, but the club’s resident bad boy Mario Balotelli was spotted on a night out instead of catching his teammates in action.

After being ruled out of the game through illness, he went out for dinner with his friends at Manchester’s San Carlo restaurant in the city centre.

He posted a picture on Instagram of him at his restaurant table, complete with a glass of coke in front of him.

After a poor start to life on Merseyside, the 24-year-old this week stated his intentions of proving his worth at Anfield, rubbishing speculation that he is heading for the exit door.

"He does want to stay,’ manager Brendan Rodgers told the media. "I think that is the case with him.

"He does care about doing well for Liverpool and wants to do well, but it just hasn’t gone as he would have wanted.

"He’s a good guy. He’s not scored the goals he would have wanted, but we are determined to help him find a solution."

The squad flew to the Middle East for a winter training camp.
