Bad news for badminton fans in Singapore as the world's top two shuttlers Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan will not be competing at the Li-Ning Singapore Open in June.

But they can still look forward to watching Olympic badminton men's singles champion Taufik Hidayat in action at the tournament, which will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 19 to 23 June.

Other notable stars include Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana, Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh, and Indonesia's Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan.

Meanwhile, Singapore's Women's double pair of Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei will be hoping to repeat their triumph in 2010. Joining them in representing Singapore are the likes of Derek Wong, Gu Juan and Fu Mingtian.

A record-large prize purse of US$200,000 (S$253,274) will be up for grabs as the tournament, which is part of the OSIM BWF World SuperSeries, will be celebrating its 25thanniversary this year.

Speaking of her hopes for the Li-Ning Singapore Open, Shinta is confident her partnership with Yao Lei will bring some cheer back to the home crowd.

The 23-year-old also insisted the tournament will not leave them exhausted for the London Olympic games which starts on 27 July.

She said, "We did not do so well in the competition last year so we must improve our performances this time around."

"The tournament will not tire us out. In fact, it will prepare us better for the Olympics," she added.

Singapore Badminton Association president, Lee Yi Shyan, is looking forward to a packed Indoor Stadium this June.

He said, "We are sure that every Singapore badminton fan will come and root for their local shuttlers and their favourite world star again this year."
