18 athletes to represent Singapore in London Olympics

18 athletes have been picked across eight sports to represent Singapore in the London Olympics which starts on 27 July.

16-year-old swimmer Joseph Isaac Schooling will look to do the Republic proud in the 100 and 200 metres Butterfly events.

Other London-bound athletes include gymnast Lim Heem Wei, badminton double pair Yao Lei and Shinta Mulia Sari while Derek Wong and Gu Juan will compete in the men's and women's badminton singles events.

The table tennis team, which brought home a silver medal in the women's team event in Beijing 2008, will be represented by Gao Ning, Yang Zi,  Zhan Jian, Feng Tianwei, Wang Yuegu and Li Jiawei.

Making up the rest of the Singapore contingent are shooters Jasmine Ser, sailors Colin Cheng Xinru and Elizabeth Yin Yue Ling, sprinters Gary Yeo Foo Ee and Dipna Lim Prasad, and canoeist Lee Wei Ling Geraldine.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 25 athletes represented Singapore in five different sports.
