(KMOV.com) -- President Barack Obama will not attend the Winter Olympics in Russia, and neither will any other top U.S. officials.
It’s the first time in 14 years a current or former president, vice president or first lady won’t join the U.S. team at the games.
Two openly gay athletes, tennis star Billie Jean King, and ice hockey medalist Caitlin Cahow will be part of the U.S. delegation.

Some see the selection as a response to Russia’s anti-gay laws.
President Obama also cancelled a September meeting with President Vladimir Putin after Russia granted asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden.
