Mayra Aguiar Biography
An emerging star, Aguiar has established herself as one of the best judoka to come out of Brazil. Despite her age, Aguiar has Olympic experience, though it's limited to one bout as she lost to Leire Iglesias of Spain in the opening round of the 70 kilogram weight class in 2008. She's since moved up to the 78kg weight class. She has found success at the half-heavyweight level with a silver medal at the 2010 world championships, losing to the United States' Kayla Harrison in the final. Aguiar has also won three straight gold medals at the Pan-Am Games, including one in April as Brazil claimed nine of the 15 gold medals in judo. She earned gold again at the International Judo Federation's Masters tournament in January.
