Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has not given up hope of joining AC Milan this summer.

The Serie A giants are keen to lure the centre-back to Italy ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, but they have so far been unable to agree on a fee with the French champions.

Nevertheless, even though the 23-year-old understands MHSC's reluctance to sell, he remains adamant that a move will eventually materialise before the August 31 deadline.

"I hope that Milan and Montpellier reach an agreement. Milan are a great club. How could one say no to a club like that," Yanga-Mbiwa stated to Tuttomercatoweb.

"It's normal that Montpellier are not giving up on me just like that. I am the captain and one of the club's symbols."

Yanga-Mbiwa's contract with Montpellier is due to expire in the summer of 2013.
