Wigan Athletic - Liverpool Betting Preview: Backing goals could provide the path to profit

Editors' Picks

Wigan Athletic claimed their first Premier League win since December when they cruised to a 3-0 success over Reading last weekend and Roberto Martinez’s men will be keen to achieve back-to-back league victories for the first time this season when they play host to Liverpool at DW Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Latics are chalked up as a 3/1 (4.0) shot with Coral to claim all three points when they face the Reds this weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are rated as a 5/6 (1.83) chance with Coral to claim their first Premier League away win since they enjoyed a 3-0 triumph over QPR back in December. The same firm go 11/4 (3.75) that the match ends in stalemate.

Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone has been in a rich vein of form in recent weeks, having scored an impressive four goals in his last two outings for the Latics.

The 29-year-old is available at 7/1 (8.0) with Coral to keep that run of form going with the opening goal of the game on Saturday while the same firm go 2/1 (3.0) that Kone scores at any time which could appeal to those who believe the visitors are defensively vulnerable.

Liverpool, of course, have an in-form striker of their own with Uruguay international Luis Suarez having scored 11 goals in his last 12 matches for the Reds.

Suarez is chalked up at 9/2 (5.50) with Coral to break the deadlock on Saturday while the same firm offer 6/5 (2.20) that the 26-year-old scores at any time.

It is worth noting that, despite winning just three of their last eight matches, the Reds have scored an impressive 19 goals in those outings while the Latics have managed 12 goals in their last five games so goals seem likely to feature prominently here.

With that in mind, the 4/6 (1.67) quote from Coral for three or more goals to be scored looks to be a solid selection and should be backed accordingly while the 2/1 (3.0) quote for the in-form Kone to strike at any time is the value selection.
