Wednesday's Championship bet of the day: Hull are good value to beat Brighton

Two sides with serious aspirations of playing in the English Premier League next season meet on Wednesday night, as Hull City play host to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Championship.

The match at KC Stadium looks like an intriguing one on paper and the visitors will be looking to shrug off the disappointment of a 6-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon; they come up against an in-form side in the shape of Nick Barmby's men.

The home side are unbeaten in their last six league fixtures and are 4/5 (1.80) with Bet365 to win here. The same firm make Brighton 7/2 (4.50) shots, whilst the draw is rated as a 5/2 (3.50) chance.

Matt Fryatt has been the main man for The Tigers this term and the striker, who has bagged nine goals so far this term, heads up Bet365’s first goalscorer market at 9/2 (5.50).

Czech midfielder Robert Koren has also weighed in by hitting the back of the net nine times for the Championship club, and he is available at a chunky 13/2 (7.50) to break the deadlock on Wednesday night, which looks generous.

Brighton’s main goal threat has a distinctly Celtic flavour, with Welsh striker Sam Vokes and Scottish forward Craig Mackail-Smith likely to lead the attack for Gus Poyet's men. The latter is a 17/2 (9.50) chance to open the scoring, whilst Bet365 offer 10/1 (11.0) on Vokes to break the deadlock.

This promises to be a tight, tense affair with so much at stake and Bet 365’s offer of 100/30 (4.33) on the contest to be level at half time with Hull prevailing at full time carries plenty of appeal here. Similarly, the 5/2 (4.50) on the home team to win by exactly one goal with the same firm also looks worthy of support.

Brighton will not travel to KC Stadium without hope though, as that crushing defeat against Liverpool is their only loss of 2012 so far, but Hull will be unsympathetic. Should the Seagulls suffer an FA Cup hangover the hosts can seize the initiative and push themselves into the play-off places with victory.
