Young Spanish attacker Oliver Torres is thrilled at having been called up by Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone to join up with the club's senior side for their pre-season preparations.
The starlet, fresh from winning the Under-19 European Championship with Spain, is hopeful that he will be able to rack up some first-team appearances following his breakthrough.
"After winning the European youth championship, Simeone came up to me and told me to introduce myself to the first-team," he told Spanish newspaper AS. "I did as he said, feeling like a child again.
"If I have done something to catch his attention then the rest is now in my hands. I hope that, one day, I can get his trust and prove that I am ready for the step up.
"I've had the opportunity to leave in the past, but stayed because all I want is to succeed at Atletico Madrid. The players I model myself on are Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta."
The 17-year-old had played an integral part in leading La Rojita to their sixth European Championship title on Sunday.
