LONDON - The violent incidents surrounding Tuesday's League Cup clash between Barnsley and Manchester United, when eight arrests were made, will be investigated by the FA, the governing body said on Wednesday. In one incident a group of United fans broke into a food kiosk at the Oakwell stadium trapping eight staff, while they stole cash from the till and took all the stock, a South Yorkshire police spokesman said.
Agassi admits taking drugs and lying to ATP
DOHA - Eight times grand slam winner Andre Agassi has admitted using the recreational drug crystal meth and lying to men's governing body the ATP to escape a ban. In his forthcoming book, which is being serialised in The Times, the American candidly describes being introduced to the drug in 1997 by his assistant and the moment later that year when he was informed he had failed a drugs test.
Stabbed West Ham player charged with assault
LONDON - Police said on Wednesday they had charged West Ham United defender Calum Davenport with assaulting a woman shortly before he was stabbed at his mother's home in August. Davenport, 26, a former England Under-21 international, was stabbed in both legs during the attack at the house in Bedford and underwent emergency surgery for his injuries.
Transfer freeze for Portsmouth over debts
LONDON - Portsmouth have been banned from registering any new players until further notice because of unpaid debts to other clubs, the Premier League said on Wednesday. The league said in a statement the embargo was imposed on October 15.

ROME - Italy does not need sporting-culture lessons from England, Italian Olympic Committee chief Gianni Petrucci said on Wednesday as the row over Fabio Capello's accusation that ultra fans were ruining Serie A continued. England coach Capello irked many of his Italian compatriots earlier this week by saying the hardcore ultras were allowed to do what they wanted and that stadiums in Spain and Britain were more family friendly.
