Telecommunications organisation SingTel has revealed followers of the Italian Serie A and English FA Cup can now catch their favourite teams in action on its newly-launched Mio Sports platform.

SingTel, which already telecasts the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga and Uefa Champions League, will be adding three aditional sports channels to its programming for the purpose of catering to an expanding local market for European football.

To be broadcast in conjunction with the Serie A and FA Cup will be the French Ligue 1, Capital One Cup - recognised in the past as the Carling Cup - as well as home games of the Italy and England national teams.

"As we did with the Community Shield, we worked hard to acquire football content for the fans who have been waiting anxiously for news about the important European tournaments," SingTel's managing director for television, Mr. Goh Seow Eng, was quoted as saying.

This declaration will be met with relief from fans of Italian football in particular, following fellow local broadcaster StarHub's announcement it would cease efforts to acquire the television rights of Serie A.

"I'm happy local fans will finally be able to watch Serie A this season," Juventus supporter Junrong Lim commented. "The only hassle remaining is deciding on which cable service to retain."

StarHub, who telecasted Serie A the previous 2011-12 season, had admitted in Auguest that it would be discontinuing 'Live' screenings of Italian matches during the upcomng campaign on its Football Channel platform.
