This year;s edition of he Sultan of Selangor Cup will once again be played at the Shah Alam Stadium and although despite it being miles away from Singapore, some fans are not letting the distance deter them from making the trip up north.

Furthermore, the match will be played on a Saturday and that is a plus point for fans who have decided to support the team at the Shah Alam Stadium.

For Yana, an ardent fan of local football since the formation of the S.League, it is an occasion for the family to get together, in addition to catching some football action.

“Yes, I am going with all my family members.  We've never failed to watch the Sultan of Selangor Cup regardless of where it is held, be it at Shah Alam or at the Kallang Stadium previously.

“The most important thing is that I am able to travel together with my family, friends and fellow Singapore football fans. It’s good that I am able to spend time with my family during this trip.”

As for Geylang United supporter Firdauz, he has plenty of reasons to sacrifice his weekend and join the entourage to Shah Alam.

“The Sultan of Selangor Cup has always been an exciting event, with fireworks and fringe activities which brings about a wonderful atmosphere.

“I have been a Geylang supporter for years, and with [Vedhamuthu] Kanan as head coach for the S.League Selection and several of our players in the squad, it is a must-watch game for me!"

Firdauz was also looking forward to the veterans' match that will precede the actual event, and hopes the S.League contingent will bring back the cup for a fourth consecutive time.

“Even the chairman and our goalkeeping coach Shahri Rahim is in the veteran team.  I hope both veterans and the S.League team will awe the fans with their great display of skills, and hopefully we will win the cup again!”

Singapore have won the previous three editions of the cup, with Selangor's last win coming in 2009 after they won on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
