    Beckham junior joins QPR academy

LONDON (Reuters) - David Beckham's eldest son Brooklyn has joined the junior academy of London club Queens Park Rangers and bookmakers are already offering short odds that the 14-year-old will emulate his father by playing for England. Beckham senior, who began his career by joining Manchester United's academy also at the age of 14, retired from the game last week after helping Paris St Germain to the French league title but now has a home in London. Bookmakers are offering odds of 12-1 that

The 25-year-old arrived from Manchester City for £10 million last year, but is disappointed with his displays as the Black Cats struggled against relegation throughout the season

Goal.com readers believe that Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is the youngster least deserving of a call-up to the England senior squad.

The 20-year-old received a substantial 34.21 per cent of the vote, over double that of his nearest rival Fraser Forster for the upcoming World Cup 2014 qualifiers with San Marino and Poland.

Shelvey has impressed Brendan Rodgers so far this season, but his side currently sit in 14th in the Premier League, with the midfielder's most eye-catching moment being his straight red card in the 2-1 home loss to Manchester United.

The spirited midfielder was sent off for a wild tackle on Jonny Evans before appearing to launch a foul-mouthed attack on United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as he left the field, calling into question his temperament.

However, Roy Hodgson has evidently seen enough talent to give Shelvey a chance in the national side, and he may even get match time against minnows San Marino on Friday after replacing the injured Frank Lampard in the squad for his first ever senior England selection.

Celtic goalkeeper Forster took taking 16.9% of votes cast, while strikers Danny Welbeck and Andy Carroll were almost inseparable with 15.76% and 15.67% respectively.

Forster looked shaky in Celtic's last Champions League outing against Spartak Moscow, and despite his side's 3-2 victory, he nearly cost them the game with a poor spill for Spartak's second.

Welbeck has failed to score in the 2012-13 campaign after an impressive first full season in Manchester United's squad last year, while Carroll has only just returned to West Ham's team following a four-week absence with a hamstring injury.

Sunderland's new signing Adam Johnson garnered 8.94% of votes cast, and Stoke's sturdy defender Ryan Shawcross crept in last with 8.54%.

Johnson has only played three times in six weeks for the Black Cats, ensuring a frustrating opening to his career under Martin O'Neill, while Shawcross has earned his first call-up despite being overlooked on multiple occasions in the past.

Goal.com reader Scott believes that Forster is entirely deserving of a call-up, stating that: "As far as third choice goalkeepers go, picking one who plays for Celtic in the Champions League is not a bad option."

Meanwhile, Adachi states that Carroll should not be in the team because he is a "useless giant".
