Schalke's Hildebrand set to miss Olympiacos

Editors' Picks

Schalke 04 goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand faces a race against time to be fit for the Royal Blues' opening Champions League match at Greece's Olympiacos on September 18 after injuring his knee.

Having only won the battle for Schalke's number one shirt in the last few weeks, ex-Germany goalkeeper Hildebrand twisted his right knee in training and missed Saturday's Bundesliga home match against Augsburg in Gelsenkirchen.

The 33-year-old, who last appeared for Germany in 2007, is expected to be out for several weeks and has been replaced in the Schalke goal by 22-year-old Lars Unnerstall, who made 21 Bundesliga appearances last season.

Schalke have been drawn in Group B of the Champions League, which also includes Arsenal and Montpellier.
