This was my worst season, beaten Mourinho says

MADRID (Reuters) - A King's Cup final defeat against Atletico Madrid capped the worst season of Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho's career, the Portuguese said on Friday after the 2-1 loss left him without a major title this season. Widely expected to move on at the end of the campaign and linked with a return to Chelsea, a grim-faced Mourinho gave little away about his future but said Real, the world's richest club by income, had suffered a "disastrous" season, with only a Spanish Super Cup

Sergio Ramos is looking forward to starting the defence of Real Madrid's Liga title after a successful pre-season tour of the United States.

The Spain international acknowledges the support the side were shown in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York, and hopes the feelgood factor from their escapades will put them in good stead for the upcoming campaign.

"It's nice coming to this country and being accepted with warmth and love," the two-time European champion told Goal.com after the 5-1 rout of AC Milan on Wednesday.

"We have to be thankful for that. It's notorious the way people react to what Real Madrid mean in the football world and we have to give thanks for that."

“I think this was a good game to tune up the team before the season. It will start with a title at stake [the Supercopa] against Barcelona. We already want La Liga to begin.”

Once again, the issue of a long pre-season before an intense calendar of official games was presented as a problem by the press; a notion that the centre-back was quick to shoot down.

“These tours are helpful because we can have some experiences as a team that we cannot have during the season,” Ramos said.

During their friendly tour in North America, the Spanish champions won all three matches against the LA Galaxy, Santos Laguna and Milan, and will start the new season against Valencia on August 18.
