*Portugal secured qualification with a play-off victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina

Besiktas winger Ricardo Quaresma is of the opinion that Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo would be a worthy winner of the Ballon d'Or award.

The Real Madrid striker is one of the favourites for the prestigious accolade after inspiring Los Blancos to win their first La Liga crown since 2008 with an impressive 46 goals.

Ronaldo also scored 14 times in other official competitions, and Quaresma thinks that the 27-year-old does not need to shine at Euro 2012 to clinch the award.

"For what he has done this season, I think he deserves the Ballon d'Or," Quaresma told reporters. "He does not need to have a great Euros to win the award.

"Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world. He has proved this over the years, and this season he had another great season.

"As a Portuguese and as his friend, I hope that he wins this award."

Quaresma then called on Portugal to lift their spirits with an improved performance in Saturday's warm-up friendly against Turkey after the Seleccao were held to a goalless draw by Macedonia.

"It is important to play a good game to gain trust, but the most important thing is to play against Germany and win," he added.

"The official games are those that we really need to win.

"The goals will come. There is no need to be anxious about it. We have a lot of value and we must believe in it."
