Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle believes that Giovanni Trapattoni's team did not play well enough despite snatching a late winner against Kazakhstan in World Cup 2014 qualifying.

Trapattoni introduced Doyle as a 58th minute substitute with Ireland trailing 1-0 and the Wolves man played a part in both of Ireland's late goals. Doyle crossed the ball for Robbie Keane who won a penalty with three minutes left and struck himself in the 90th minute to give Ireland three points.

After the game, Doyle spoke to RTÉ reporter Tony O'Donoghue, and admitted he was not surprised at being left out of the starting eleven. "I'm not unhappy to be left out," Doyle said. "I got relegated last year and can't be picked out ahead of players in the Premier League."

Doyle also revealed the instructions manager Giovanni Trapattoni gave the players at half-time in order to inspire a comeback.  "At half-time, the instruction was to get higher up the pitch as we had been too deep," Doyle said. "I was delighted to get the winner, but we struggled all night."

"We should be playing better than that. At least we got the win," a relieved Doyle admitted.
