Pearce: Result was the most important thing for Team GB

Team GB manager Stuart Pearce has stated that picking up three points was essential, following his team's 3-1 victory over the UAE.

Goals from Ryan Giggs, Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge were enough to see off their Group A opponents, and the team now head into their final group stage enoucnter against Uruguay knowing that just a point will see them qualify for the quarter finals.

Pearce, who opted to leave both Sturridge and Sinclair on the bench ahead of kick-off, looked on contentedly as both his substitutions added to Giggs' first-half opener - but afterwards admitted he was more concerned with the result than the performance.

"The result was the most important thing this evening. We needed to win this game to give us a lift and enhance the belief in the group." he told the BBC.

"Some good parts of our play I thought and some things that we've still got to work on; we won't go away from this thinking 'it was a bed of roses totally' but some real solid performances

"Certainly [Craig] Bellamy and [Ryan] Giggs, Joe Allen, [Tom] Cleverley, some real solid performances within the group. We have to build once again for the last game."

Pearce also declared that his side would not be playing for a draw in their final group game against Uruguay.

He added: "We're going to try and win every game, we've set the team up to try and do that always. I think we can improve on the performance from tonight, we always expected we would improve on the performance game by game.

"It's going to be a tough one but we've got to recover and get ready for it."
