Nigel de Jong has stated that joining AC Milan was a dream come true for him, and he's determined to follow in the footsteps of illustrious compatriots such as Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Clarence Seedorf.

The combative midfielder joined the Rossoneri from Manchester City on deadline day of the summer transfer window, and he's keen to guide them to success.

"When I watched Milan in the 80s and the 90s, I dreamt of coming here to play for them," De Jong said in an interview with Sky Italia.

"Finally I’m here at Milan and therefore I must thank Dutchmen like Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard and Seedorf.

"We have a young squad that needs to be built again, but I'm happy to be a part of this project. I want to contribute to the future success of Milan."

De Jong made his official Milan debut in the 3-1 Serie A win over Bologna at the weekend.
