Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars is confident that the Amsterdam giants will sign Barcelona defender Marc Muniesa on a temporary basis.

The Eredivisie champions are looking to strengthen their defence following the departure of Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur, and they have earmarked the 20-year-old Spaniard as the perfect addition.

Muniesa is currently in talks with Barcelona over a contract extension, and Overmars is hopeful that he will soon complete his move to the Godenzonen.

"Barcelona will meet with Muniesa on Tuesday to discuss a contract extension. As soon as that has been taken care of, a move to Ajax is an option," Overmars told De Telegraaf.

"He is open to a transfer. We want to sign him on a one-year loan deal. I'm awaiting a phone call from Barcelona now."

Muniesa's current deal with Barcelona is due to expire in the summer of 2013.
