Manchester City beat Porto 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium to wrap up a 6-1 aggregate win to set up a Europa League last 16 tie with either Legia Warsaw or Sporting Lisbon.
The home side took the lead after just 19 seconds through Sergio Aguero before the Argentine set up Edin Dzeko in the second half to secure a comfortable victory, David Silva and David Pizarro also netting late on to give the tie a one-sided look.
The Citizens made just one change from the first leg bringing in Aguero for Mario Balotelli while the Europa League holders made two alterations to their back-line from the game at the Estadio Dragao, Nicolas Otamendi and Alex Sandro replacing Danilo and the suspended Alvaro Pereira.
Roberto Mancini had discussed Porto's threat before the game but saw his side make the perfect start to the match, Otamendi played the ball straight to Yaya Toure who immediately played Aguero through on goal and the Argentine slotted past Helton to score his 20th goal of a highly impressive debut season.
The home side almost extended their lead as Silva's delicious through-ball sent Toure through on goal, the Ivorian saw his effort saved when one on one with Helton and when the ball fell to Samir Nasri with an open goal, the Frenchman could not apply the finish.
Moutinho hit a free-kick over before Aguero found himself one on one with Helton again as the Brazilian rushing recklessly off his line and in slippery conditions, the Argentine rounded the keeper and chipped an effort over Sandro on the line but saw his effort cruelly clip the bar and stay out.
Hulk could only hit a powerful free-kick at Nigel de Jong and City launched a lightning counter, Aguero and Toure exchanged possession but City's goalscorer could not add to his tally, firing wide.
Porto were restricted to long-range efforts, Lucho Gonzalez hit a speculative effort over before another Hulk free-kick was deflected wide.
From the resulting corner Maicon headed down to Otamendi but the Argentine defender could only volley over from eight yards, the Portuguese side's last chance of the half as the sides went in for half-time with City in total control.
Porto came out for the second half with the purpose of a side that needed to score three times to win, Lucho Gonzalez found space after a quick free-kick and fired an effort wide with Hart scrambling to his right.
The holders finally had the ball in the net ten minutes into the second period, but James Rodriguez close-range goal was chalked off due to Hulk's involvement from an offside position.
Roberto Mancini looked to stem the tide of Porto pressure, sending on James Milner in place of Gareth Barry in the City midfield.
Porto were forced to make a change to their side after the hour after Otamendi was injured after being kicked in the face, Cristian Sapunaru replacing the stricken Argentine with Cristian Rodriguez also replacing Varela.
Toure then picked up a booking for a clumsy challenge on Fernando, the Ivorian will now miss City's next Europa League game after picking up three yellow cards in Europe this season.
With the game meandering to little more than a training match, Dzeko replaced Nasri as City looked to introduce a strong presence to their attack and search for a second goal to kill the tie.
And it was the Bosnian who wrapped up the game for City, Aguero combining with Silva on the left flank and driving inside before playing a perfectly weighted ball to Dzeko who finished first-time.
Porto's misery was furthered as Rolando was shown a second yellow card and subsequent red for over-zealous protesting that Dzeko had been offside.
It was more joy for City, Porto gave the ball away from a throw-in deep in their half and Dzeko pounced on the ball and squared for Silva who tapped in a third.
Pizarro had been introduced as a late sub and the Chilean managed to get his name on the score-sheet, looking to set up Dzeko the ball fell to the Roma loanee and he gleefully smashed the ball home to score his first goal in City blue.
