Hulk has responded to Romario's negative reaction to the forward's inclusion in Brazil's Olympic squad, claiming that he deserves the same respect from the Selecao legend that he has for him.

The Porto striker is one of three 'over-age' players that Mano Menezes has included in his 18-man squad for the London Games - Thiago Silva and Marcelo are the others.

Romario felt that Hulk should not have made the cut, arguing Brazil would have been better served by picking another defender, a view that disappointed the 25-year-old attacker.

"Romario is a guy who I have always admired and I will always respect," Hulk told Folha de Sao Paulo.

"He was a world champion and is a guy who has done many things for Brazil. So, he is a person who I have always respected.

"But I think I also deserve to be respected. But he is a guy I admire and like very much."

Hulk insisted that Romario's comments had not detracted in any way from his happiness at being called upon by Menezes.

"I received the news in the best possible way: along with my family; along with my wife and my children," he explained. "It was a great joy. I just have to thank God for this moment."

Brazil, who are bidding to win the Olympic title for the first time in their nation's history, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand.
