Adam Johnson is confident of his long-term England future following a transfer to Sunderland this summer.

The talented winger struggled to hold down a regular place at Manchester City and opted to move on the recent transfer window in search of first-team football.

And after making the move Johnson is sure that Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson won't be forgetting about him anytime soon.

“But I’m part of the England set-up and I’m hoping that won’t change.”

Johnson has been selected for England’s World Cup squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, and hopes that his inclusion in the squad will become a regular occurrence while he's with the Black Cats.

He added: “Roy Hodgson has been brilliant with me since he took over the England team. I’m sure he won’t forget me!

"He has said he wants his players to be playing regular first-team football – that’s something I wasn’t doing at Manchester City, but I hope it will be different for me here at Sunderland.

“It might have been a bit different if I had joined Sunderland a couple of years ago before I had played for England.”
