Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a press conference on Wednesday to announce Hoang Van Phuc as the new national team coach for Vietnam.

Hoang replaces Phan Thanh Hung who resigned following the disastrous 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup campaign where Vietnam exited the group stage without a single win.

Hoang is the current head coach of Ha Noi T&T Youth team and will take on a caretaker role for the nation's upcoming Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers.

He said: "It's a great honour and responsibility when leading the national team in the first two games of Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers."

Hoang's fate will be decided after the two matches and VFF have indicated that they may opt for a foreign coach in a permanent role.

Meanwhile after the near-mass clear-out of the national team, Le Tan Tai has been installed as the national team's new captain. The 29 year old will become the oldest member of the Vietnamese squad and is one of the few veteran players who has been retained.

Le was voted in as captain by his team-mates with Pham Thanh Luong and goalkeeper Nguyen Thang Binh taking on vice-captain roles.
