Gladbach are prepared for 'difficult' Dynamo Kiev tie, says president

Borussia Monchengladbach president Rolf Konigs has admitted that his side may find it difficult to beat Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League play-off round, but is confident they will be fully prepared.

Lucien Favre led his side to a surprise title challenge last season, and although they were unable to claim the Bundesliga crown, they finished in fourth, securing qualification to Europe's top club competition.

And although Konigs is fully aware that a trip to Ukraine will be a daunting task, he is certain that the Gladbach squad are more than capable of securing a place in the group stage.

"I completely agree with the fans - we would have preferred Panathinaikos or Copenhagen as opponents," he told reporters after the draw.

"But we'll deal with it. They were the most difficult opponent in the pot. I hope we can get a good result. We are well prepared."

Ranier Bonhof, the club's vice president, agreed that his side were handed a tough task, but confirmed that he is still dreaming of a place in the competition proper.

"I'm in shock, but we will accept the challenge head on. It would be great if we could finish the job and qualify for the group stage."

The first leg of the tie will be played on August 21-22, with the return taking place one week later on August 28-29.
