The German Super Cup could be contested in Asia next season as the German Football League (DFL) look to capitalise on increasing interest in the fixture.
This season the trophy will see domestic double-winners Borussia Dortmund take on Champions League runners-up Bayern Munich and will be broadcast in over 180 countries.
According to Bild am Sonntag, Bundesliga bosses will discuss moving the tournament to China with DFL president Reinhard Rauball at the next board meeting in early September.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is an advocate of the idea and CEO of the football league, Christian Seifert, recently stated: "An edition of the Super Cup in China is possible. Only the clubs would need to go along with it."
However, not all are on board and Eintracht Frankfurt executive chairman Heribert Bruchhagen has warned clubs to be sceptical over the advantages.
"It is difficult to asses what this move would bring us financially," he said.
"€72m from the international marketing for the Bundesliga alone is already a very impressive number, the revenues have been increased significantly by the DFL.
"It would be a mistake, comparing the Bundesliga with the Premier League [which collects €300m in media rights] in this area."
The Italian Super Cup is now hosted in the East Asian country and if the decision to play the German version in China is approved, the change could commence as soon as next year.
