Martin Jol says Giorgos Karagounis will be offered a new deal at Fulham if they feel the moment is right, after praising the midfielder’s performances in the side following the 1-0 win over Stoke.

Having signed as a free agent earlier in the campaign, the 36-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, but the manager says the Euro 2004 winner's performances and experience are important to the Cottagers.

"Giorgos loves to play here. And if we feel the moment is right we will sit down with him and offer him a new contract," he told reporters.

"He's not the youngest. But every time we get other players in, you miss him.

"Last week I didn't play him because I was annoyed because he was playing for the Greece national team, he played 70 minutes and that is not what you want, so I played Emmanuel Frimpong."

Forward Bryan Ruiz expressed his anger following the match after he believed Stoke midfielder Steven N'Zonzi hit out at him following a challenge.

He protested: "I thought it was boxing. It was a punch, I felt it and that is what Damien Duff said it was.

"I said to the referee he has a very heavy hand if he just pushed me. I felt a punch, close to me ear."

The Costa Rica international also commented on his decision to wear his first name Bryan on the back of his shirt, explaining: "My name is Ruiz and Bryan is my first name. My name is from my father but he left the family when I was one year old.

"We didn't change the name, I kept it, but I like Bryan more and Ruiz does not mean a lot for me."
