(Reuters) - France left back Gael Clichy has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester City that will keep him at the English Premier League team until 2017. Singapore Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel escaped punishment over a near-miss with McLaren's Jenson Button after a lengthy stewards' inquiry on Sunday.

Officials decided the defending world champion was not at fault for the incident, when Button narrowly avoided smashing into his rear-end when they were driving under the safety car.

They said video and telemetry evidence did not show any erratic driving by the German, who went on to claim his second win of the season.

The investigation concludes a busy night for the stewards, who penalised Michael Schumacher 10 grid places at the next grand prix for causing a crash, and gave Mark Webber a 20-second penalty for an illegal overtaking manoeuvre.
