Dortmund announce record €101m revenue & €17m profit for first half of season

Borussia Dortmund have revealed the best half-season in the club's history, financially. From July 1 to December 31, 2011, the defending Bundesliga champions earned €101.4 million in revenue, and recorded €16.7m profit before tax, both club records.

CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke hailed his team's financial success and asserted that the figures justify the summer signing of Marco Reus, who in January confirmed his €17.5m move to Dortmund.

"BVB have progressed economically and sportingly in recent years," he said according to the club's official website. "Given the current figures it is reasonable to say that the transfer of Marco Reus does not pose any financial risk for Borussia Dortmund."

According to Deloitte's recently published Football Money League report, Dortmund earned €138.5m over the course of the 2010-11 season, a 32 per cent increase from 2009-10, when the club pulled in €105.2m.

On their current pace, BVB will earn €202.8m in 2011-12, a figure only exceeded by nine clubs in the Deloitte publication.
