Fabio Coentrao has insisted that Portugal will come back a better team from their 1-0 Euro 2012 defeat to Germany on Saturday, despite acknowledging that the result has "saddened" him.

Fresh from Netherlands' shock loss to Denmark, the Seleccao also crashed to an opening-day reverse, this time against the Germans, with Mario Gomez scoring the winning goal for his side.

Coentrao, who started the fixture, admitted that the outcome did not reflect the effort Portugal put into the contest, but hoped to build up momentum from the defeat.

"I am sad, but in the midst of all this sadness there is something positive, because we showed a very good attitude," he told Goal.com. "Now we will have to keep this up to defeat Denmark on Wednesday.

“Of course I am fine. When I play with confidence, things are completely different. There is no player who can perform well without confidence.

"In my case, everyone gives me confidence in the national team and with that confidence, I show everyone what I can do, which is to play football.

"Of course there is no player who scares me. No problem to face Muller or Robben."

Portugal face Denmark on June 13 in their next match of Group B.
