India coach Wim Koevermans stated that he would want Sunil Chhetri to feature more regularly for Sporting Lisbon’s ‘B’ side given that he has only seen six minutes of playing time since the Nehru Cup final over a month back.

A lot of brouhaha was made when Chhetri was signed for the Portuguese club however the national team skipper has seen little action in a team full of youngsters, which has been pretty much similar to his disappointing move to Sporting Kansas where he wasn’t even drafted into the MLS roster by the club.

“It’s better if Sunil plays regularly but of course, it is never easy considering the quality of the league. I will be speaking to Sunil about this soon and will even travel to Lisbon if necessary to watch him play,” said Koevermans.

Following his Nehru Cup triumph, he is refusing to rest on the laurels of the past and believes that they have a lot of work to do.

"There is so much of road left to walk. The Nehru Cup is in the past. Everyone is happy about it, including me. But we have to move on with what we started there," he mentioned.

The wily coach has designed a new way to keep his players performances from dipping by creating a 'shadow team'.

"The national team staff has created what you may call a shadow team with (alternate) players for each position and these players will be monitored,” he added stating that places are up for grabs and that he is pleased with the talent in the country.
