Atletico Madrid could be forced to make do without the services of Diego for their Europa League last-32 second-leg clash with Lazio on Thursday.
The former Brazil international was forced off after 61 minutes of Sunday evening's La Liga match against Sporting and, according to AS, the player has been diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right thigh.
The full extent of the damage will not be known until after an MRI scan on Monday, but Diego is already considered a major doubt for the midweek visit of the Biancocelesti to the Vicente Calderon.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at Atletico from Wolfsburg.
