MADRID (Reuters) - A King's Cup final defeat against Atletico Madrid capped the worst season of Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho's career, the Portuguese said on Friday after the 2-1 loss left him without a major title this season. Widely expected to move on at the end of the campaign and linked with a return to Chelsea, a grim-faced Mourinho gave little away about his future but said Real, the world's richest club by income, had suffered a "disastrous" season, with only a Spanish Super Cup

MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was sent from the bench for protesting a referee's decision in the second half of Friday's King's Cup final against Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese reacted furiously when the official awarded a free kick to Atletico with around 15 minutes remaining at the Bernabeu, racing to the edge of his technical area and gesticulating wildly. Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has stated that Iker Casillas has responded well to being dropped for his side's 3-2 loss to Malaga before the winter break.

Coach Jose Mourinho elected to field rookie keeper Antonio Adan for the trip to La Rosaleda in December, but the former Liverpool man says that time on the bench is inevitable at some point.

"Casillas has had exemplary behaviour," he told reporters.

"He supports Adan in training more than ever, showing what a great professional he is. We've all been through some time on the bench. This has been given too much importance.

"In the dressing room, we are not talking about Iker being dropped, because each week we should speak about the next starting XI."

Los Blancos resume Liga action after the winter break by hosting Real Sociedad on Sunday.
