The 24-year-old was making full use of a two-day break given to the Barcelona squad after their 6-1 win over Getafe at the weekend.
However, Messi's visit to France also saw him springing a surprise on the children at the Olympique de Neuilly school alongside his teammate Xavi.
In an unexpected move, 300 French children received the thrill of their lives when the Barcelona stars arrived at the school on Monday afternoon.
The Neuilly suburb in France is comprised of mostly wealthy, select residential neighbourhoods and is considered a "bourgeois" (upscale) part of the city.
So it's no wonder that when the father of one of the young members of the club had invited the Barcelona stars to visit, they obliged.
Messi and Xavi spent around 45 minutes at Olympique de Neuilly after arriving at the grounds at around 5pm.
Their car was mobbed by fans as the players freely mixed with the kids without any security in sight.
Meanwhile, Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona has become a father at 52 after Veronica Ojeda, his former long-time partner, gave birth to a baby son on Wednesday.
Diego Fernando is Maradona's fourth child, after his two daughters from his marriage to Claudia Villafañe, Gianinna and Dalma.
He also fathered an illegitimate son, Diego Sinagra, with a Neapolitan woman, Cristiana Sinagra.
"His name is Diego Fernando and he was born on 13 February at 23:57 pm and weighed 3.2 kilograms. Both mother and baby are doing well," announced Alfredo Cahe, Maradona's personal physician earlier this week.
Although the couple separated last year after an eight-year courtship, Maradona has acknowledged that the newborn son is his and will bear responsibility for the child.
"Maradona will send an acknowledgment of paternity by the embassy," revealed the mother's lawyer.
In other off the pitch news, Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri may not have impressed in recent games for the club -- and maybe because he's been distracted.
After breaking up with his long-term girlfriend and former French tennis player Tatiana Golovin last year, the 24-year-old has spotted around town with Freddie Ljungberg's ex, British model, Anara Atanes.
More recently, he tweeted a photo of the couple celebrating her 25th birthday at a club with the message : "Happy birthday baby it's your day enjoy to the max xxx".
Atanes, who has also dated Darren Bent, Kieran Richardson and Jermaine Pennant in the past, admitted that she hated being labelled a 'WAG'.
‘I don’t really like the term WAG. It is very stereotypical. I earn my own money. I have a great time but I am not A WAG," she said in an interview in 2008.
Atanes also sings in a four-girl band called Fanfair.
