    LionsXII cancelled out by Selangor

Shahril Ishak fires LionsXII into the lead (Goal.com/Zeng Liwei)Shahril Ishak fires LionsXII into the lead (Goal.com/Zeng Liwei)

    By Khariul Nizam (Goal.com)

A disappointing turnout did not hamper the mood for Selangor and LionsXII who fought out a competitive 1-1 draw in Bukit Jalil Stadium.

Selangor was without their foreign signings Ramez Dayoub and Basko Balaban who were still awating their International Transfer Certificate while LionsXII had a near full-strength side that also included Baihakki Khaizan. Madhu Mohana meanwhile made his debut partnering Baihakki in the heart of defence.

Selangor started strongly with Safiq Rahim testing Izwan Mahbud with a freekick inside the opening ten minutes. The home side then carved open Singapore's back line again through a brilliant link-up play between Safiq and Fitri Shazwan but the former's shot in the end was straight at the LionsXII custodian.

Singapore finally tested Selangor goalkeeper Norazlan Razali on 19 minutes. A deep cross fell to Baihakki and his shot to the near post was well-blocked by the custodian who then denied Agu Casmir immediately after, snatching a looping header from slipping under the crossbar.

But the breakthrough finally came two minutes from the break. A deep cross was allowed to float by Shahril who was offside but picked up by Raihan Rahman at the far post. The midfielder then cut the ball back to the Lions captain who sidestepped his marker before brilliantly powering home from the centre of the penalty box, leaving nothing that Norazlan Razali could have done.

Selangor however pulled level almost immediately after. In injury time Amri Yahyah laid off for K.Gurusamy and his first-time volley from outside the penalty box bulged the netting as Izwan stood rooted to his spot.

The second-half was a relative muted affair as the two evenly matched teams cancelled each other out. Safiq and Amri had the two best chances, with the former seeing his one-on-one effort thwarted by Izwan near the hour mark while Amri passed on a free-header infront of goal in the final ten minutes of play.

It was another disappointing night for Irfan Bakti and the Red Giants as they moved further away from the leading pack but for the LionsXII, the draw would be a valuable point earned.

LionsXII ??? It should be PussiesXII !!! I think we can get some Ex-marathon runners from Kenya and train them to handle balls for 6 months. They will play better than PussiesXII. It takes time to grow pussies to Lions--a few years at least.

Utterly useless!!! Just quit M super league, bowed your head down to apologise for making the wrong decision to join the league and disband the entire team. Sent them back to play at their own clubs. No point of playing with such a low standard., Even the bottom S league team can trash them

aiyah ah hui! ..dont talk like that la..this team not Singapore National team leh..
LionXII is low standard bcos its new..LionXll join MSL not aim to become campion.. FAS join MSL to let our boys gain experience.. play together so can select the best for Singapore National Team..

Sharil played the best last night and the past 2 matches. We need more like him.

Total football please, Lions. Keep it simple, pass fast, low and run into empty spaces (Just like the opponents)

Yours is the most pleasant to read. Others are all dissing without even thinking really. I bet these are the people who only watch English football passionately but never even know how to play football for all you know, really.

Why can't the lions XII join the J-League division 2 or K league? Or even Chinese league...?? Why join the dam M-league.. ? Standard is Equivalent to S league.. Then what's the point?! I think in future we can only compete with Malaysia. And this cycle will keep going on and on.

hello this is LionsXII, not Spore team....

their performance has improved, as I said many times Agu is a misfit for a striker to partner with Sharil. Bring in another striker some one like Noh Alam Shah as Sharil is an attacking midfielder. good footbal last night.

1-1, not a bad result for a hangover team, partying all night, feeling dehydrated.
no wonder almost all the players are parked inside their own penalty box.
tired, can't run, dehydrated from drinking & smoking & partying earlier night.

btw, playing in a kelong league with kelong teams still can't win ah.
what have you pussies been smoking????

Another match of kids (Lion XII) against the adult as they did what they did as usual....score already then happy like f****, defend like siao thereafter but still let opponenet score and lastly starting to show lack of energy and stamina almost the entire of the second half. Wondering why singaporean footballers dun concentrate on their physical training on stamina and endurance before going into match....Singapore soccer will always be a failure if we dun improve our stamina and endurance....looke how fast the Viets are running nowadays and the endurance they shows recently....SIGH....

Pls don't call them LIONs, you put shame to the king of the jungle. Call them WHITE MONKEYS 99.

The 2nd half of the match highlight the trend of most of our matches, run out of gas, show no ambition to attack. By parking the bus in the penalty & own half is not the way to attract fans
or show S'pore football is moving forward. Just can't imagine a state team is streets ahead in terms of fitness level compared to Lions XII players. FAS must be thinking the way to improve standard of football is by encouraging negative style of football.
