Sri Lanka batsmen enjoy flat track to pass 300

KARACHI (Reuters) - Chamara Kapugedera, Mahela Jayawardene and Chamara Silva scored half centuries in a Sri Lankan total of 308 for eight against India in their Asia Cup super league match on Thursday.

Sri Lanka, who have already qualified for the final, opted to bat first on a flat track after omitting spinner Ajantha Mendis, their leading wicket-taker in the competition with 11 victims.

Despite the early loss of inform Kumar Sangakkara, fellow opener Sanath Jayasuriya hit a brisk 43 before being caught behind down the leg side off Ishant Sharma.

Jayawardene (50) and Kapugedera (75) put together a third wicket stand of 78 from 89 balls to lay the foundation as the Indian bowlers found nothing in the pitch to assist them.

Jayawardene, after reaching his 47th half-century, from 62 balls was out next ball when he tried to loft left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha down to long off and was caught by Gautam Gambhir.

Kapugedera then fell in the 38th over when he was trapped in front by Praveen Kumar to leave Sri Lanka 217 for four.

Tillakaratne Dilshan was fifth man out at the total of 245 when he pulled Irfan Pathan down to fine leg where RP Singh took a well judged catch.

Silva completed his 50 from 56 balls before he was run out.
