UEFA Cup final goalless at halftime

MANCHESTER (Reuters) - Zenit St Petersburg and Rangers were drawing 0-0 at halftime in the UEFA Cup final at the City of Manchester stadium on Wednesday.

Zenit dominated possession but could not break through a well-organised Rangers defence.

Playmaker Andrei Arshavin fired wide from an early Zenit counter-attack and Alexander Anyukov tested goalkeeper Neil Alexander with a rasping drive.

Rangers offered little threat and a Steven Whittaker header that sailed over the bar was their only attempt on goal.

Russian champions Zenit are in their first European final while Rangers' only European triumph came in 1972 when they defeated Dynamo Moscow to win the Cup Winners' Cup.
