British sprinter Chambers vows to overturn ban

Controversial British sprinter Dwain Chambers insisted Saturday that he intends to continue his fight to get his Olympic ban overturned in time for the 2012 Games.

The 30-year-old, who was banned from athletics for two years after testing positive in 2003 for the steroid tetrahydrogestrinone (THG), is waiting to hear if he will be offered a contract by engage Super League side Castleford.

The former European 100 metres champion won silver at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year, but is prevented from running in Beijing by a by-law of the British Olympic Association which imposes a lifetime Games ban on all those found guilty of doping offences.

Chambers told the Daily Telegraph: "I will keep battling on.

"I want to finish my sporting career on the track.

"My big hope is that no matter what happens with the rugby league adventure - and I badly want that chance to prove myself - I can get the Olympic ban overturned in time for 2012.

"I will only be 34, which is not ancient for a sprinter.

"If there is no offer from Castleford, I am in such good shape I will do a couple of British League meets this summer and see exactly how fast I am running."
