Rooney and Lampard fit enough to train with England

WATFORD (Reuters) - Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard, who both took knocks in their Premier League matches on Sunday, trained in the snow with England on Monday and should be fit for Wednesday's friendly against France.

Lampard took a blow to his hip during Chelsea's 2-1 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, while Rooney grimaced in pain while holding his knee in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Both players went through their paces at Arsenal's London Colney training ground with the rest of a 23-man squad which included David Beckham, who should win his 100th cap on Wednesday.

Coach Fabio Capello, who named a provisional 30-man squad last week has already been forced to make some changes with injured goalkeepers Chris Kirkland and Scott Carson being replaced by Paul Robinson and Robert Green.

Gabriel Agbonlahor, Jermain Defoe, Jermaine Jenas, Ashley Young, Shaun Wright-Phillips and David Wheater were all left out of the original squad while Matthew Upson withdrew because of injury.

Capello, in charge of England for a second match, said he had no problems in recalling Beckham after leaving him out of his first squad against Switzerland last month.

"In the previous match I did not call him up because he was not fit, having not played any games. He is now fit," Capello told the FA's Web site (www.thefa.com).

"But when David is fit he can always bring an important contribution because of his vision on the pitch and the fact he can cross the ball and always create chances. Not only from free-kicks."

Beckham later told a news conference he felt in superb shape after pre-season training in Asia and Hawaii under coach Ruud Gullit at LA Galaxy and was looking forward to winning his 100th cap.

"It will be one of the highlights of my career," he told a news conference at the England team hotel near Watford. "People have been talking about it for long enough, it will be nice to win it and then move on."
